DJ Chad Jackson’s Favourite Prime Series Features
Following his guest appearance on the Denon DJ stand at BPM Show 2017, we asked (Haçienda resident, ex-World DMC Mixing Champion, Top 5 global Artist and DJ Educator) Chad Jackson about his favourite Prime Series features.
Chad relates to the ‘musicality’ of the SC5000’s – as if they were DJ instruments. His first favourite feature is the units’ trigger pad multi-functionality, which handle the hot-cue, loops, rolls and slicer that he loves to creatively express himself. Following this, Chad digs the SC5000 time-stretch algorithm, enabling him to do some wild tempo changes, even taking the BPM down to literally “ambient noise”, then adding FX with the X1800 mixer.
Next up on the CJ feature fave list is the SC5000 dual-layer capability. Giving Chad two separately outputted (track) layers in a single unit, he can rock a crowd with just one player! Of course the X1800 mixer too had a spotlight focus for this ex-world champion DJ. The effects section on the unit gives Chad delays and other creative FX that sync-lock to the playing track’s tempo. As a result, he can blend different tracks in with full effects washes and repeats, whilst still controlling the master tempo (thank you ‘Engine Connect’!).
Next Gen influencing
Returning to Chad’s passionate ‘musicality’ analysis of how the Prime Series gear can intuitively lead a DJ/Artist to explore creative boundaries, his excitement for how the gear will gel together the ‘DJ’ and ‘Producer’ performance, is clear. For Mr Jackson, the combination of the SC5000 and X1800 Prime has the scope to.. “Be musical, Be expressive!” – Check out Chad’s BPM 2017 video below for his full interview.
